Types of Fishing
Recreational Or Sport Fishing Basically Describe Fishing For Pleasure Or For Competition.
If You Are A Recreational Fisher, It Is Important To Observe Certain Rules And Regulations. Generally, To Fish In The UK You Need To Buy A License. Failure To Do So Can Lead To Being Fined.
Typically When Fishing, The Equipment Required To Do So Involves A Rod, Reel, Line And Hooks Aswell As A Wide Ranging Line Of Baits. If Catching Fish By The Use Of A Hook, You Are Generally Referred To As An Angler. It Is Usually Expected That Any Fish You Catch Are Returned To The Water. If In A Competition, A Log Of The Fish's Weight May Be Recorded Before Being Placed Back Into The Water.
Big Game Fishing Is Done In Large Boats In Open Water With The Catches Being Anything From Tuna To Sharks Or Marlin. Sport Fishing Is Recreational Fishing Where The Reward Is Purely For Finding, Catching And Logging The Fish Rather Than For Any Financial Or Culinary Gain.
Commercial Fishing Is The Capture Of Fish For Commercial Purposes. Fishermen (Sometimes Known As Trawlermen) Often Have To Pursue Their Catch Far Into The The Sea And Quite Often In Adverse Conditions.
In The UK A Large Amount Of Trawlers Are Based In Aberdeenshire. These Boats Will Trawl The North Sea In Order To Catch Cod, Prawns And Many More Commercially Viable Fish. There Are Very Strict Guidelines As To How Much Cod Can Be Caught As There Is A Big Risk That Overfishing Will Cause Their Demise. If Any Trawler Is Found To Have Caught Too Much, The Fines Run Into Tens Of Thousands Of Pounds. Unfortunately, Even If A Trawler Does Catch Too Much, By The Time They Throw The Fish Back Into The Sea, Most Are Already Dead. This Is A Real Bug Bear For The Trawlermen As Their Argument Is That They May As Well Keep The Fish As Throwing Dead Fish Back Into The Sea Benefits No One.
The Trawlermen Will Be On A Fishing Trip For Up To A Week Or Maybe Even Two At A Time. It Is Imperative That They Catch As Much Fish As Legally Possible, And For Them To Get Their Haul Back To Port And Sell It For The Best Price They Can Get. If They Don't Catch Much, Then The Trawlermen May Not Even Get Paid. It Really Is A Hard Job, And With The Prospect Of Not Even Being Paid After A Week At Sea, The Pressures Are Enormous.
